Joshua Hamilton, a 15-year-old rising Junior at Bishop McNamara High School (BMHS), earned the rank of Eagle Scout on May 22, 2021. Joshua began his Boy Scout journey as a Bear Cub when he was in the 3rd grade. During his time with Pack 1661 in Fort Washington, Maryland, Joshua enjoyed making new friends, camping, and fishing but most of all racing his Pinewood Derby cars.
In 2016, after earning the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award, Joshua bridged to Boy Scouts. During his bridging ceremony, he committed himself to becoming an Eagle Scout. His determination to accomplish his goal is demonstrated in the twenty-nine Boy Scout merit badges, 35 overnight camping nights, more than 7 miles of hiking and several leadership roles including Chaplain Assistant and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
For his Eagle Project, Joshua constructed an accessible walkway at the American Legion Youth Campsite in Cheltenham, Maryland. The 7' X 70' walkway will not only ensure safe passage for campers using wheelchairs and walking devices, but also serves all campers in avoiding a muddy path from their campsites to the bathhouses. In order to accomplish his project, Joshua spent several hours planning, securing donations, prepping the work area, researching safety guidelines, and supervising a team of volunteers.
Joshua’s steady and persistent progress through the ranks to achieve this prestigious award demonstrates his determination to prepare himself for a meaningful, productive role in society. Outside of Scouting Joshua is a class of 2023 honor-roll student and a Varsity Lacrosse player. His exemplary performance inside and outside of Scouting will serve as a beacon to both his fellow Scouts and peers.
